Choosing our song

After researching different artists and songs within our genre we have selected these 3, and now we will select one of these songs to make our music video to.

2nd photoshoot

For our second photo-shoot, we went up to London in the evening as we wanted to get pictures which showed a clear contrast between dark and bright, so therefore it being night time brings the dark, and the lights of London bring the bright.
I prefer these photos to the first ones as I feel they look more professional and show a clear theme which will be shown when they are on my digipak.
To find the locations of these pictures, we were walking around central London and would stop whenever we saw a bright/neon light that we thought would make a good picture.

Costume

In the indie pop genre, artists tend to dress in a similar way. It tends to be quite casual and plain, unlike in pop videos when artists tend to wear extravagent and bright outfits.
The outfits in indie pop usually consist of a plain jumper or tshirt with jeans, boots and some kind of jacket.
Here are some examples:

Taking Photos for our digipak 1

We begun to take photos for our digipak. To do these pictures, we bought different colour light filters and placed them over a studio light to make the light the colour of the filter.
I feel this created a very interesting effect as it makes me blend in with the all but the shadows stand out.
I prefer the ones which are darker as I feel they match the theme of indie pop, and our song meaning. The brighter ones could appear as more of a pop music theme as you can see the artist more, which is a clear element of a pop CD.

Green Screen Digi Pak Analysis

Digi Pak Analysis 2

Rihanna- Loud

This Digi Pak is a six panel album. It holds one CD with a pattern of a rose which continues throughout the whole digipak. The front cover of the digi pak shows a close up image of the artist, this may be because Rihanna has a large fan base so therefore it is obvious as to who the album is by and will make people buy the Digi Pak. The three bottom panels show an image of Rihanna, this also shows that the artist is the main selling of the album, the colour also matches the rest of the album, which is pink, red and white, which could suggest the album is about love.

Production Log 1

Thursday 17th November

Today we filmed the first chorus for our music video. We wanted it to have a similar feel to it as the Digipak, with the first photo-shoot. This would involve us using the same light filters over the lights to create different colours projected onto the image. However, because we wanted it to change colour to fit the pace of the song, we borrowed a disco light which looked very effective when paired with the light filters. These together produced shadows and a light that fitted our theme very well. We also filmed it at different angles so that it would not look like one continuous shot and would break the chorus up.

Music Video Director Research

Mike Lee Thomas is a music video director whose videos I really like. He has directed 2 videos for the band Oh Wonder, one of the bands that we have researched and is close to what we want our artist to be like.

Livewire - Oh Wonder
This scene uses a wide lens to show a large amount of the setting. There is not much happening in the scene so the audiences attention goes straight towards the cars headlights. I really like the colouring in this scene and the way it goes with the slow pace of the song at the time.

In this shot it shows 2 people looking across a balcony. I like this shot as the lens flare from the sun adds a nice effect and it is also contrasts with the other scenes in the video as it is much brighter and appears happier.

This shot has similar colouring to the first shot but this time the background is blurred and the people are the main focus point. However, they are still quite hard to see due to the shadows, making them almost like silhouettes.
