Research into Record Labels

Major labels are the main feature in the music industry and are seen to be the most powerful. They sign artists who they then manufacture, promote and sell their music to get money. An example of a major company would be Sony Music. There are also independent labels that are different as they do not have a corporate backer. An example of a independent label would be Rough Trade.

Major label
The artists sign strict contracts to the record label meaning they can take control on what music they make  and the way the artists promotes themselves. Major labels also deny rights to artists for their own songs, meaning that the record label 100% owns the song, because of this, the artists only earn 10%-15% royalty on their music. This shows that major record labels only care for the money and not the artists.

Independent label
Independent labels usually sign indie and alternative artists. These artists are able to freely create their own music and own all of the rights to them. They are also in control with how they promote themselves as an artist meaning they have no restriction on they way they dress and sell themselves on social media.
On a independent label an artist will get 40%-75% in royalty.

Editing Styles

In music videos the editing style will always match the pace and theme of the song. In an upbeat happy song with a fast pace, the editing will have more cuts to match the speed of the song, aswell as brighter colours and more transitions and effects to match the theme of song. In a slower more calm song, the editing will again match the pace of the song but this time the shots will be longer with less cuts to keep up with the beat changes in the song, aswell usually having darker colours and less effects.

DIGIPAK FINAL

Production Log 2

Thursday 8th December

Today we filmed in the same location as last time, using the same lighting and tech as before. However, this time we recorded the second chorus and used different angles and mid shots so that the choruses would look slightly different and would also match the build up in the song. This chorus will not include the artist lip syncing the whole time as we did this for the first chorus and it took up too much of the video as the chorus is long. Therefore we will break the chorus up with setting shots.

Magazine Poster

I used photoshop to create a magazine advert for the digipak. I tried to keep with the same colour scheme as my DigiPak as it will be clear to the audience that the album has a consistent theme and will be able to identify the artist just through a certain theme or colour. I used the same font that is our logo for the artist at the top of poster, and for the rest of the poster I used the font that I used

Music Video First Draft

This is the first draft of our music video. I like how it turned out as I feel the colours in the video are very vibrant and match the theme of the song, whilst the cuts and video placement matches the pace of the song. However, i feel the lipsyncing could be more common throughout the video and also appear a bit more realistic, meaning we will have to refilm some parts to fit this in.
