Representation in Music Videos

Music Videos made by well known artists release their videos to a large audience, therefore representation is common in their music videos.
A certain ideology is usually displayed in music videos, mainstream genres will often include dominant values that tend to be hegemonic and will display stereotypes in order to have mass appeal.
However, more alternative artists may feature more controversial topics or include transgressive imagery in their videos in order to appear anti-estbablishment.
Modern music videos use computer effects, digital manipulation and transitions with a much stronger narrative within then, sometimes producing them as short films about a certain topic that matches with the lyrics. The use of this adds to the sense of spectacle and stardom and increases the symbolism of the video.
